About this clinic

City of London — what to expect

London Braces is a private dental practice. We are not an NHS provider. Our clinical work is delivered by dentists and hygienists who are registered with the General Dental Council (GDC), with practising indemnity in place. The provider is Medical and Dental Limited.

Suitability for any treatment is decided after a clinical assessment. We will not recommend treatment that you do not need, and we will always give you a written estimate before treatment begins.

Our City of London clinic is opening on Ave Maria Lane, EC4 — a quiet street tucked behind St Paul's Cathedral and a short walk from the City Thameslink and St Paul's stations. The practice is designed for City professionals who want longer evening appointments, transparent written estimates and consistent clinical leadership across general, cosmetic and orthodontic care. Until the clinic opens, our South Kensington site is treating new and existing patients across both clinics.

When the clinic is open, expect the same model of care you would receive at South Kensington: private surgery rooms, GDC-registered dentists and hygienists, clear written treatment plans, and price ranges given to you in writing before any treatment begins. Walk-in emergency triage may be limited at peak times — if you are in pain or have had a dental injury, please call us so we can prioritise your appointment.

Your first visit

A clear, unhurried clinical pathway.

We allow time for a proper conversation. A new-patient appointment typically takes 30 minutes and includes a full medical history review, an oral cancer screening, an examination of your teeth, gums and bite, and intra-oral photographs where helpful. Diagnostic X-rays are taken only when clinically indicated and are charged separately at £20 each. We will explain what we see, what the options are, and what each option would cost in writing before any treatment is booked.

  1. Step 01

    Medical & dental history

We review your general health, medications and any concerns. This helps us flag risks and plan around them.

  2. Step 02

    Clinical examination

Soft-tissue check, periodontal screening, bite assessment and tooth-by-tooth charting by a GDC-registered dentist.

  3. Step 03

    Diagnostics where indicated

Photographs are routine. X-rays are taken only when clinically needed and are charged separately at £20 each.

  4. Step 04

    Written plan & estimate

Findings, options and an itemised cost estimate in writing. Nothing proceeds without your informed consent.

Regulation & safety

Standards we work to.

As a private dental provider in England we work to the standards set by the General Dental Council, the Care Quality Commission and HTM 01-05 (decontamination in primary-care dental practices). Every clinician at this clinic is GDC-registered and works within their scope of practice.

GDC-registered clinicians

Every dentist, hygienist and therapist is registered with the General Dental Council and carries professional indemnity.

CQC-regulated provider

Medical and Dental Limited is the registered provider for this clinic and is regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

Decontamination to HTM 01-05

Instruments are washed, inspected, sterilised and tracked in line with national infection-prevention guidance.

Informed written consent

No treatment proceeds without a written estimate, a clear explanation of risks and your signed consent.

Radiation safety (IR(ME)R)

X-rays are only taken when justified by the clinician. Equipment is maintained and quality-assured to UK standards.

Safeguarding & data

Patient records are held under UK GDPR. We have safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults.

If something goes wrong

We follow a written complaints procedure that meets GDC and CQC expectations. If you are unhappy with any aspect of your care, please raise it with the clinician or our Practice Manager and we will respond promptly. You can also escalate to the Dental Complaints Service for private dental care, or to the GDC for concerns about a registrant’s fitness to practise. See our complaints page for the full process and timescales.

Accessibility

Visiting the clinic

Please tell us in advance if you have access needs and we will do our best to accommodate them — including a ground-floor appointment where possible, longer slots, or a quieter time of day. If you use a wheelchair or have mobility limitations, please call ahead so we can confirm the most suitable surgery room and entry route at the City of London clinic.

Nervous patients

A calmer appointment

Many of our patients tell us they have avoided dental care for some time. We will not pressure you into treatment. A first visit can be a conversation and a look around if that is what you need. We use plain language, agree a stop signal, and pace appointments to suit you.

What to bring

Helpful for your first visit

  • • A current list of medications and any allergies.
  • • Details of any active dental treatment elsewhere.
  • • Recent X-rays from another clinic if you have them.
  • • A note of any specific concerns you want us to look at.

The neighbourhood

Around the City of London clinic

Ave Maria Lane sits within the City of London ward of Castle Baynard, a short distance from St Paul's Cathedral, Paternoster Square and the Old Bailey. The surrounding streets are home to law firms, banks and professional services, and the area is well served by lunchtime cafés and pharmacies. The clinic is within the Congestion Charge and ULEZ zones, so most patients arrive on foot or by public transport.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Am I too old for braces?+

No — there is no upper age limit. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, orthodontic treatment works at any age.

How much do clear aligners cost in London?+

Our ProAligners plans start from £1,000 (Easy Align) and go up to £2,990 (Ultimate Align) for comprehensive cases. The right plan depends on your case complexity and is confirmed in writing after your consultation. Finance is available, subject to status.

Which ProAligners plan is right for me?+

Easy Align (from £1,000) suits minor crowding or small gaps; Smart Align (from £1,700) covers mild to standard cases needing alignment and bite correction; Ultimate Align (from £2,990) is our comprehensive plan for complex crowding, rotations and full-arch realignment. Your dentist will recommend the right plan after a digital scan and clinical assessment.

Are your dentists orthodontic specialists?+

No. Our clinicians are GDC-registered general dental practitioners with experience in clear-aligner therapy — they are not GDC-listed specialists in orthodontics. If your case requires specialist input, we will tell you and refer you on.

What does the £30 new-patient checkup include?+

A full examination with a GDC-registered dentist and a written, itemised plan. Nothing is booked without your say-so. X-rays are £20 each if clinically needed and always quoted before they're taken.

Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?+

Yes. An Emergency Dental Appointment provides same-day relief for toothache, swelling, broken teeth and dental injuries. The fee is £95; new patients can book the £30 new-patient offer.

Is finance available?+

Finance is available on treatments £500 and over, subject to status. Provided by an FCA-authorised credit broker. We will explain the options and figures in writing at your consultation.
